Indigenous Symposium in Prince Rupert!

Wap Sigatgyet hosted an Indigenous Symposium on May 17 for both local and out of town participants who wished to learn more about Indigenous ways of knowing and implementation of Indigenous content in the classroom. A full day of exciting workshops were included, and two amazing author keynotes: Nicola Campbell and Sara Florence Davidson. It was truly a successful and impactful day of learning for everyone! The guests were also provided traditional chowder, herring eggs, fried bread and fruit cups in addition to salmon and other sandwiches for a contemporary and traditional lunch. The video below highlights all of the non-Indigenous participants engaging in the butterfly crest dance:

Students of Marlene Clifton's drumming group performed songs led by Ms. Clifton which encouraged everyone's participation, and it was heartwarming to see the students so proudly engaging with their culture and honouring the Ts'msyen people!
