In Memory of Kamloops Residential School Victims

With broken hearts we mourn the 215 children found at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School. We know that the pain inflicted by these schools has impacted families and communities with a legacy that continues today.

Now more than ever it is imperative for all of us to continue to educate ourselves about the residential school legacy in Canada. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action can be a starting point in recognizing the individual and systemic issues that are ongoing as a result of these institutions. Residential schools were intended to destroy family ties, and as a result, many children were taken to schools far from their home communities and never returned home.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc families and community. We also send our support and love to each and every person impacted in other communities across Canada. We are deeply saddened by this devastating loss.
