It's been such a busy fall that we are only now getting around to posting some of the things that have been happening in the classrooms. Earlier in October, Grade 2 and 3 students at Roosevelt had the opportunity to be the first class to try out the new 2x2 Rubic's cubes which are available for teachers to sign out from the Math Library at Wap sigatgyet. They also piloted a Math/ Applied Design, Skills and Technology/Art unit focusing on patterns, algorithms and mosaics. They learned about 2D and 3D geometry, solved mystery puzzles using deductive reasoning, and learned algorithms to make mosaics using the Rubic's cubes and then designed their own mosaics. They had so much fun that some of them forgot that they were doing math!
